Spring 2019
Our learning challenge this term is “How can 5 a day help me to be healthy?” To start this we read ‘Handa’s surprise’ and explored different fruits, some of which we hadn’t seen before. We were able to look inside them and see what they smelt like.
We will be thinking about the importance of growing, discussing things that we can do now that we couldn’t do five years ago whilst thinking about how baby animal look either similar or different to their parents. We will also be exploring how animal, including humans, survive and how those survival needs are met. In addition to this, we will be investigating the importance of hygiene to prevent the spread of germs. We will conduct some experiments to investigate how germs are spread and to find the best way to wash our hands.
We will learn about the importance of exercise and eating healthily. We will look at the different food groups and in D & T we will design a health packed lunch and a dinner menu for friends.
Autumn 2018
Our Learning Challenge this term is Science based and focuses on the question ‘What is our school made of?’ We will be identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials. This Learning Challenge will begin by looking at materials within the classroom environment. We will then explore the outside of the school building to identify, name and discuss the suitability of the materials used to build the school. The children will be given the opportunity to experiment with a range of materials in order to change their shape by bending, stretching, squashing and twisting. We will end with each group giving a presentation to the rest of the class on their chosen material.
