Welcome to Reception Class and the first stage in your child’s school life. In the Autumn term we will be learning new routines, meeting lots of new friends, learning each others name and getting to know our lovely classroom and school.
We tailor our curriculum to your child’s interests and will adapt our planning to what the children are interested in learning about.
Your child will be following the school’s Traffic Light system. ‘Green behaviour’ is rewards with stickers, star cards (exclusive for Reception Class) and weekly certificates that are handed out in Celebration Assembly. We also hand out WOW stars to the parents to record proud moments that are captured at home and you would like celebrating in school.
We use the ‘Gem Power’ system in school which promotes independence and problem solving. In Reception Class we focus on the ‘Diamond Power’ which develops children’s self-sufficiency. This includes getting dressed, putting on their coat and tidying away with as much independence that they are able to achieve.
At Escomb we have developed a programme called ‘New Friend Friday’ where children will be given the opportunity to work with someone who they may not have encountered before in class. This encourages new friendships to develop and widen their circle of friends.
