International Women’s Day

8th March 2019 By katherinepotts

Year 6 children had the privilege of taking part in and celebrating International Women’s Day at Bishop Auckland Town Hall.  It linked with the work they have been doing on the No-Man’s Land exhibition.

Sue Snowdon spoke about how she was the first female to be appointed Lord Lieutenant of County Durham. Adam, Chloe and Keira stood up to do a reading before World Champion Thai Boxer, Rachel McKenzie, showed us how hard work and determination pays off.  Jayden said “ Rachel is a true fighter.  When others doubted her she did not give up”.  Seven of our children sang a lovely song then Kate Fox (Poet and Broadcaster) finished the morning off.

All the children left feeling inspired by what they had heard and are determined not to let stereotypes be a barrier to what they want to be in the future.  Here are just some of the comments our children had to say:

·       “I was inspired by all the women who stood up for themselves against stereotyping.  They showed a lot of girl power.” – Keira

·       “These women were some of the most inspirational women I have ever met because they did not give up on their dream.” –  Adam

·       “It was inspiring to listen to all the stories of the challenges the women faced. They were determined not to fail.” – Lara

·       “The whole morning inspired me to never give up and follow my dreams.”  – Hannah

World Book Day

7th March 2019 By katherinepotts

Today we celebrated World Book Day as a whole school by coming dressed as one of our favourite story characters.  The children were challenged to come in original costumes and they certainly rose to the challenge.  It was so hard to pick just one winner from each class so we decided we would choose two!

Well done to:

  • Daisy G
  • Chloe C
  • Harry C
  • Emily B
  • Nieve H
  • Christopher R
  • Jake O
  • Lily J
  • Keira B
  • Finley B
  • Abi T
  • Connie H

The children spent the afternoon taking part in some fun activities in their class.

See below for some photographs:

Happy New Year!

20th January 2017 By wendygill

Welcome back after the Christmas holidays. Already a lot has been happening in school. Year 6 have been to Robinwood on a three day residential visit. They had a fantastic time and really challenged themselves using their emerald power to help them.

Year 4 and 5 have started the Fisch programme. This is on-going for 10 weeks and helps them learn how to keep healthy through being active and eating the right foods.

Please make sure you read our newsletters for any news and information.

Dr Tom visits Escomb

16th November 2016 By wendygill

Today Wednesday 16th November,  as promised, Dr Tom Robson was back in school to work with our children and to deliver a workshop for parents. Tom has worked with us before on ‘learning powers’. His approach encourages children to become confident, focused, independent and resilient learners. We have adopted this approach in school and it is having a positive and lasting impact on our children as learners. I know that parents thoroughly enjoyed the workshop  and came away feeling energised by Dr Tom’s positive approach to learning. For parents who couldn’t make the session, just google ‘Dr Tom Robson’ and you will be able to see some of his work or ask your children. More information will be available on our website very soon.

Japan was amazing!. We spent three days in Ogawara Minami School experiencing Japanese school life and culture. We then travelled to Tokyo and had a couple of days sightseeing. Thank you to Harry, Ethan S, Tilly B and Sol in Year 6 and to Ellie and Mia in Year 5 for embracing everything that Japan had to offer and representing our school so well. Thank you also to the parents who accompanied us for being fabulous company. Photographs of our visit are displayed on the board in the ‘Quiet yard’ – take a look! More information will follow on the school website.

Japan – here we come!

16th November 2016 By wendygill

Tomorrow morning, Saturday 22nd October, Mrs Peart and I set off on our adventure with 6 children and four parents to visit our partner school in Japan. We are all really looking forward to the visit. The children have been busy preparing work for the children to share with respective classes in Japan and the 6 children making the visit have put together a presentation to share with Ogawara Minami school. All of our children have contributed to a huge banner that we are taking as a gift and as a symbol of our partnership. We will tell you all about our visit when we return.
